How Do You Pick The Right Baby Monitor?

Choosing things for your baby used to be easy. There simply were not so many varieties of playpens, cribs, baby monitors and so forth. Today, however, the number of choices is vast. All parents want to choose the best products but trying to figure out exactly which items are best for you, your baby and the rest of your family can be a challenge. With so many choices, how do you know which one is the right one? Before you put too much pressure on yourself, here are some things you can do to make the whole process better.

Find a monitor that gives you control over the volume on your receiver end. Everyone knows all moms want to tend to their babies if they're distressed or crying, but it's a very good idea to be able to adjust the monitor volume to a comfortable level. Imagine flying out of your bed because it sounded like a three alarm fire, and you rush in to discover your baby is playing with a toy and making noise. So the best solution is to find a monitor with a good volume control so you're not rudely thrown out of bed when you hear a noise. How much do you want to be able to monitor? Some parents prefer the comfort of a system which can track literally everything that is going on while they are not in the room, down to the last detail. Other parents find it to be too nerve racking to be constantly sitting in front of the system watching it out of the fear that something may happen. If however, you do feel that it's necessary to have extra surveillance features for your monitoring system, you will want to look into systems which have video and audio surveillance. Now while these more extensive systems are nice for added protection, they also eat up a lot of your time, and can prevent you from getting any work done, which is why some parents may still choose a more simple system, such as an "audio only" monitor. Do not confuse your parenting abilities with the type of monitor you choose, because you are choosing this monitor to be able to leave the room and get tasks done, but also so that you can still take care of your child; so the monitor should be one that allows you to actually get your work done in the first place.

The battery life should be considered, because you need the system to at the very least last overnight, especially if you are the type of person who forgets to charge your batteries, or even if you hate always having to change the batteries of electronic devices. You might also consider opting for the rechargeable battery option, where you place your receiver on a charging station instead of using one that calls for regular batteries that you change yourself, and you might even try to find a system that lets you plug your receiver into an outlet overnight as a backup system.

In the end, you should consider just how extensive you want the system to be, so that it will work best for you and your family. Also, you should consider the warranty and lifetime expectancy of your system as well, so that you can get the most out of it, especially if you are planning on having more children in the future. Keep in mind that the type of monitor you end up choosing will depend on the needs of your entire family, so assess what each member needs the monitor to do, so that you can find the best one!
