How Effective Is The Flat Belly Diet?

Everyone turns to fad diets in order to lose weight quickly and easily. The end result is usually not successful, but that does not deter people from trying them anyway. The flat belly diet program is the newest craze. Let us take a closer look at it.

The flat belly diet, as explained in a new book, requires a reduced calorie intake and high amounts of monounsaturated fats. This is supposed to flatten the stomach without the need for exercise. It must be followed for 32 days, enough time to alter your lifestyle into this diet plan.

Monounsaturated fat is the basis for this plan. They are supposed to fill up the stomach and lessen belly fat. However, studies have proven that only protein makes a person feel full, not fat. Also, other research has shown that polyunsaturated fats lessen fat in the abdomen instead.

The beginning of the diet is named the four day anti-bloat jumpstart. For motivation, it claims that in a small amount of time you will lose many pounds and inches. What this period of time is supposed to accomplish is to stop gas, extra fluid from building, and heavy solids from forming. A diet of 1200 calories is supplied and the dieter is told to stay away from salt, carbohydrates, raw foods, gum, alcohol, spices, foods that are fried, and carbonated and caffeinated beverages. After every meal, the dieter must walk for five minutes. The 1200 calorie allowance is quite low for most people and may lead to muscle loss instead of fat loss. Also, it may cause the feeling of deprivation leading a person to cheat on the plan.

The main diet plan lasts for four weeks after the initial four days. You must maintain a 1600 calorie intake, consume monounsaturated fats with each meal which must contain 400 calories, and eat every four hours. The book mentions that there is an emotional side to eating and that it is important to keep track of what you are eating and how you feel while you are eating. In reality, some people need real guidance and support to change their behavior and view of food. Even though in the beginning it is stated that exercise is not needed in this diet, exercise is the best way to maintain weight. After changing the things that you eat, you should start to exercise in small ways since that is truly the way to flatten your stomach.

There is no such thing as a quick fix, so it is unlikely that the flat belly diet will bring long term weight loss success. If a person wants to lose weight, they must change their diet and incorporate exercise into their life as well.
