How Old Should A Babysitter Be?

Want to choose the right and “perfect” babysitter for your child? Then age matters.

Experience is the best teacher. This probably holds true with everything that we do and encounter in life and with regards to all the decisions we make. One of the things that require your decision-making and experience in the field of trusting your instincts and gut feel is when you choose the right and “perfect” baby sitter for your child.

Choosing and finding the best baby sitter with whom you can entrust your child with could be a very daunting task. In fact, if you come to think of it, you should carefully weigh your reasons and options when it comes to hiring a baby sitter because while you are far away and busy at work, it is necessary for you to have the peace of the mind that you made the right choice.

Things to Consider

* One of the things that you need to consider when it comes to the babysitter that you will hire is their age. Most people want to try out babysitting and see this type of job as a part time means of earning additional income for themselves. Some baby sitters have the proper training while others rely on their instincts and charisma when it comes to dealing with children.

It is not new to see teenagers and young adults taking on the responsibility of babysitting. However, you should know that the age of the person is one strong determinant of whether or not she is equipped to become a good baby sitter.

* It isn’t wise to hire just about any baby sitter who shows interest in the job. You should definitely consider hiring someone, if possible, between the ages 18 to 45 to take care of your child.

A person who is old enough (I prefer over 18) is able to make her own wise decisions and already has a certain sense of responsibility. As a person gets older, she brings with her all her experiences and uses this to encourage and make her better in whatever craft she chooses.

Mothers Know Best

Hiring someone older, or a baby sitter who is also a mother herself could be the best choice as you can be sure that she knows what to do and would definitely have the patience and compassion necessary in taking care of your child.

Although the age of the person is important when it comes to choosing the right baby sitter for your child, it is also equally important to know that other than the age itself, it is also important to consider the maturity level of the person as well as her sense of responsibility.

You can hire a 30-year-old baby sitter who has all the experience in baby sitter but isn’t mature enough to teach your child the right things or someone who is around the age of 25 but is mature enough and could command your child to listen without necessarily having to threaten him or her.

Before you go and hire a babysitter for your child, weigh three of the most important things: the age of the baby sitter, her maturity level and sense of responsibility as well as her experiences and you can be assured that you will surely make the right choice.
