How Students Can Reduce Financial Stress

A student’s life should ideally revolve around books and studies, and focus on a bright future. But the students of today are enslaved by something more fearful than growing exam pressure, rising career demands or parental expectations. It is the dread of financial burden, which threatens to trap the young generation in a mesh of mental and physical problems caused by student financial stress.
Can Student Financial Stress be Reduced?

The answer is: YES, student financial stress can be avoided, controlled and reduced! If you are a student, there are various ways in which you can avoid stress in your life:

Federal or Private Loans: Federal loans have been initiated for the benefit of students. Choose a scheme that best suits your needs. Before availing private loans, do enough research so you don’t end up paying more than you benefit. Search for cheap federal or private loans that come with the benefit of easy installments and low interest rates.

Grants and Scholarships: These are ideal solutions to relieve your burden and reduce your existing financial problems. Grants and scholarships are offered free by federal organizations. Take full advantage of these aids, but you have to work hard to be worthy of them.

Say NO to Credit Cards: Don’t’ fall prey to credit card companies that entice you with low interest rates. A credit card is a ‘necessary evil’. As a student however, you are better off without using one, merely as a status symbol or for peer acceptance. Credit cards encourage mindless spending, the first step to increasing debts. If you must use a credit card, do so only when absolutely necessary.

Practice Following a Budget: This is a good solution to reducing student financial stress. Ideally at the beginning of every month, make a budget to allot amounts for necessary spending. Stick to your budget and avoid borrowing money or using credit cards, but for emergencies. Making a budget allows you to keep record of your expenditures and savings.

Do Summer Jobs: This will help compensate over-spending from your pocket money and widen your budget opportunities. But remember to exercise wise management to ease your financial stress.

Reduce Expensive Habits: Avoid lavish parties, expensive food and drinks, whimsical shopping, dates and gifts and other entertainment that involves big expenditures.

Saving is Important: Money saved is money earned. Your savings can begin at home –
End of the month saving: After you have spent necessary amounts from your budget, save the balance instead of merging it with the next month’s budget. Do this every month you have managed to save from your set budget.
Beginning of the month saving: Keep an amount from your pay or pocket money separately, before making a budget. This constricts your budget, but helps control your expenditure further.

With a substantial amount gathered over a period of time, deposit the saved amount securing a bank scheme that promises good interest rates.
If diligently followed, the above methods can help effectively reduce student financial stress.
