How To Avoid The Pitfalls Of Buying A Used Car On Craigslist

People are buying everything online today. From used clothes to used cars. If you buy a pair of pants and they do not fit or are not what they were presented to be, then you are only out a few dollars and it is not a big issue. If you pay thousands of dollars for a used car, then find out it is not what is was represented to be, there is a huge problem. The seller on Craigslist is not obligated to be as honest as a dealer is forced to be by law and is not as accountable in court. Craigslist is definitely a buyer beware proposition. Here are a few ways to avoid getting scammed if you buy a used car from Craigslist.

1. Do not buy a used car from Craigslist. Sorry to be blunt, but it is just too risky.
If the price seems too low, there is probably a hidden problem with the car.

2. You need to pay for a vehicle history report. Do not buy a vehicle that has large gaps in the history or ever was listed as salvage or flood damaged.

3. Do not meet the seller at their home. Insist on a public place, during the day the first time you meet.

4. No legitimate seller will request an online or phone payment.

5. Ask for i.d. and make sure the name on the driver's license matches the name on the title. No one wants to buy a stolen car.

Craigslist should be required to have a huge banner that says ''People Get Scammed On Our Site Everyday. Be Very Afraid Of The Deals Here''. If you insist on buying a vehicle from the site, Good Luck.
