It comes down to skin , as well as the history of your skins exposure to anything harmful, such as the sun. So basically, your friend could use baking soda and have great healthy skin, and you can use baking soda and not see any affects. But even once you try all the most popular home remedies, you still won't spend as you would if you go another route.

Once you start trying out different home remedies and doing your research, you will begin to notice each remedy falls into 2 categories – Category one is “exfoliation” this is the removal of dirt, dead skin and bacteria that can lead to acne. Category 2 is "Moisturizing". Most remedies that come in this category will cause for you to make some type of mask. Usually, oatmeal, honey, egg yolk, just to name of few. All will do the same thing but not all will work for everyone. Also, some of the mask you will get to try can be mixed with other products. This usually is done to offset certain affects that may occur if you have oily or not oily skin. For example: If you have oily skin you can mix lemon juice with cucumber juice, but if you have dry skin, you can mix lemon juice with honey. It just all depends on the individual.
