How To Choose The Right Beehive Plans

If you have decided that you want to produce your own honey or sell it is the market, you will have to first decide on the right beehive plans for you. There are several types of beehives but you have to carefully choose the beehive plans that will best suit your purpose and is most beneficial for you. Here is some basic information on the two of the most popular beehive plans that you can choose for your beehive.

The Langstroth beehive is perhaps the most common of beehive plans that you can choose. This type of beehive is named after the person who invented it, Lorenzo Langstroth. These beehives have spaces between them that can be extracted from the beehive. Typically, the common beehive plans have 3, 5 or 10 frames. The Langstroth beehive plans come with a piece of plastic or sheet wax. This sheet acts like an aid for the honey bees to start building their honey combs. The best thing about this beehive plan is that once the honey is taken out, the honey combs can be re-used.

The other common and a relatively popular beehive plan is the top bar hive. These types of beehive plans are usually found in Africa. These beehive plans may require a lot more effort to build than the Langstroth beehives but they help in producing top quality honey. Technically, the top bar beehive plans support the honey from bars suspended across the top, hence the name. Unlike the Langstroth beehives the honey combs in this type of beehive plans cannot be reused again. The quality of the honey is definitely very superior. This type of beehive plans are hence preferred more by people who want to produce honey for sale. That’s because they get a lot higher price for the quality of the honey.

For most people who plan to build a beehive for personal honey consumption, a Langstroth beehive should serve the purpose. It is easier to construct and maintain. Also, the honey extracted using this beehive is great for home consumption. But if you do want to make some good money by selling premium quality honey, you should certainly opt for the Top bar beehive.

It is important to choose the right type of beehive plans so that you derive the most out of it.
