How To Conquer Worry In 3 Steps

Worrying is basically excessive concern about the future. It is an activity that can literally make you sick. According to Erma Bombeck, "Worry is like a rocking chair: It gives you something to do, but it doesn't get you anywhere".

Here are three steps you can take to conquer worry:

Step 1: Be Willing To Accept Reality

Reality is. When you arrive at a future moment in your life, you will have a choice...accept or resist reality. When you worry, it's like resisting reality in advance.

In order to decrease your sense of dread about the future, try adopting a new attitude. Start telling yourself, "I can accept whatever happens".

Step 2: Believe and Trust That You Can Handle Reality

A lot of fear, worry and anxiety is caused by a lack of faith in our ability to handle whatever comes our way. The fact is, you can handle reality.

You have reached this far in life by surmounting the trials and problems of your past. Dig deep within and find that voice of confidence that says, "Whatever happens, I can handle it".

Step 3: Decide What Action You Would Take If Reality Materialized As You Imagined

A lot of worry is due to the fact that we are afraid that when reality come upon us, we won't know what to do.

From now on you can start engaging in positive worrying. Tell yourself, "If X happens, I would...". Make a list of action steps you would take. With a plan of action, you can then look forward to the future with confidence.

Worry, like so many things in life, can be positive or negative...depending on how you look at it. When you get the urge to become overly concerned about the future, take it as a cue to adjust your attitude about reality and to engage in positive worrying.
