How To Cope With Financial Stress And Quickly Relieve The Pressure

Recently, as I was surfing around the web, I found yet another website offering misguided, uninformed and irrelevant advice to people who are stressed, depressed or anxious. Here's a summary of the information being offered:

"Problems with finances are the main reason why most people are suffering from stress, depression or anxiety. Ever-increasing debts can become a major worry and managing debt can be a real strain, particularly for families on low incomes. Other factors include poverty, unemployment, and a feeling of worthlessness because financial aspirations haven't been met. In the Western world, worries about money are the main reasons that cause stress, anxiety and depression."

It's the sort of information I've read many times, be it on the Internet or in offline media, from health professionals and sufferers alike. I'm sure you too will have either been told money is the root cause of your problems or heard it from various sources.

Claiming that worries over finances is a root cause of stress, anxiety and depression has no basis in fact and is therefore totally incorrect. You cannot become stressed, anxious or depressed because of your financial situation no matter what state it may be in. Actually, finances have ZERO effect on what causes stressful illnesses to arise, absolutely NOTHING.

It can be proven with ease and I'm astonished that still, there are people who believe to the contrary.

A question for you:

If money issues and impoverishment are the root cause of stress, depression and anxiety, then is it true to say that all people who have concerns with finances or who are at the low end of the wage scale will therefore become a sufferer of stress and related illnesses? You are saying that if you are poor you must be stressed, depressed or anxious. Yes?

Following on from this, logic would then dictate:

Should an individual attain wealth, have little or no debts, and earn good money, such a person is not going to suffer from stress and related illnesses as the root cause is missing from their life.

In short: Financial hardship causes stress and related illness. Having plenty of money doesn't.

Reality clearly does not bear this out.

Each person who has financial problems, is on the low-end of the wage scale or is struggling with debt does not suffer from stress, depression or anxiety. Throughout the third world, a lot of people are impoverished but they are still happy. Like me, I'm sure you know people who have very little but are perfectly happy with their lives.

It's important to remember that rich and famous people are not immune from stressful illnesses. Elton John, Marie Osmond, Mark Twain, Britney Spears to list just a few examples. With my situation, I'd hit rock-bottom with depression having just become completely free of debt and I also had savings and a good income.

I couldn't have cared less about any of it.

That last sentence illustrates how self-esteem has nothing to do with being financially solvent. In those days, I drove a very nice sports car paid for in cash, had a couple of properties with mortgages paid off and cash in the bank however, each and every one of the people I loved were no longer in my life and I was convinced there was no point to living, I'd totally wrecked my life, it could never be fixed and I could no longer continue.

All of this demonstrates that money worries are nothing to do with the root cause of stressful illnesses. Also, being comfortably off won't bring immunity from stress, depression or anxiety. Because at the root of why people enter into stressful illnesses is the use of impaired, damaging modes of thought to attribute meanings to the situations they are facing in their lives.

Correct these flawed ways of thinking that are the root cause of stress and related illnesses, and you'll take a quantum leap in kicking these unwlecome mind storms out of your life, be you a pauper or a prince.
