How To De-clutter And Organize

De-cluttering is not an easy task since clutter has been accumulated in your home for months or even years. Start de-cluttering your closet or room by allotting a certain amount of time every day for every clutter to tackle. You can start by setting up three boxes labeled “give away”, “throw away”, and “put away”. It’s best if the “throw away” box is an open garbage bag of some sort.

Focus on a specific room of your home at a time. Keep in mind to do your cleaning in an organized way as organization is your main goal. Start at the door and move clockwise around the room – cleaning as you go. Remember not to miss anything. It is a serious task to determine the things that are important to keep and the things that are all set for disposal. Asking yourself with several questions in considering what to do with a specific stuff is a great way to determine which to keep and which is not. What are your feelings about that item? How do you feel about that item? Do you like it a lot? Is it of sentimental value? What feelings are associated with the item? Sometimes guilt and other reasons aren’t really enough to keep it around and add to clutter. Another thought you should ponder on is if you’ve used it this past year. Is it still usable and in good condition? Is it in good condition? Is there another item that’s better? These are all good reasons to get rid of that item. When your “give away” box is full, donate it. You can make money out of it too, if you put them on eBay or CraigsList or hold a garage sale.

You may only realize how many things are out of place after you’ve looked inside your “put away” box. Like with your “give away” box, stop de-cluttering once the box is full and put them away. Don’t put the box in your closet, basement, or attic to deal with it later. You’ll only realize you’ve forgotten the box when you get around to de-cluttering your closet, basement, or attic.

It is preferred not to skip things like shelves, racks, drawers and furniture in de-cluttering your closet or room. As you de-clutter, you can start organizing the room. If there’s a desk, organize its drawers. Pens, envelopes, stamps, and whatnot should be in their proper places. You might want to deal with important documents as well while you’re at it. Go through them if you find any, and compile them if need be. Get rid of those older than a year and set aside an area in your home where you can keep years of financial information.

De-cluttering isn’t really a big task. Just be diligent and keep at it until every area of your home is de-cluttered. Clean as you go; carry a rag. After de-cluttering, go through each of the areas of your home again so you can arrange your home the way you would like it – replacing clutter with decorations.
