How To Do Old School Skateboard Tricks
The 360 Spin The 360 spin is one of the very first skateboard tricks ever created. It is when you push back on the tail of the board and spin around in circles, balancing on just the back wheels, never touching the tail or the front wheels to the ground. A 360 spin is one complete turn, or 360 degrees. There are those who can do 720s, 1080s, and so on. Casper A casper is when your board is upside down and you place your back foot on the tail of the board and your front foot underneath the board on the grip tape, closer to the front of the board, by the front truck or nose. To do a casper correctly, it is expected that you do some type of flip trick into the casper, and another flip trick out of it and landing on all four wheels. Butterflip The Butterflip trick was invented by Keith Butterfield and one needs to do a 'heelside railstand' to perform it. Once in a heelside railstand position, both the legs should be hopped and placed side-by-side on the board. The gap between the feet should hardly be 1 or 2 inches. The leg which is not above the wheels of the skateboard is used to put pressure on the end of the board. As the pressure is applied, the board pops up on the side of the body which has the foot placed above the wheels. The board is grabbed with the hands after it pops up. This completes the trick. 50-50 A 50-50 is the same as a casper except that instead of placing the back foot on the underside of the tail, it is placed on the back truck instead. Ollie The ollie is the first step in 90% of most of today’s street tricks. It is how you get into the air off the ground in order to flip the board around. An ollie is when a skater pushes down the tail of the board and hits it to the ground, and jumps at the point of impact, dragging the front foot forward across the grip tape, raising the board into level position, and then landing back down, all four wheels at the same time. Boneless This is another easier trick, and more of an old school one, as tricks not involving ollies become less popular. The good news is you can actually learn this trick before you can even ollie. You simply grab your board with one hand and place your foot on the ground, jumping up in the air with your other foot on the board. Hippie Jump The hippie hump is when you ride up to an obstacle and jump over the obstacle, letting the board ride under it, and then landing back on your board and riding away. Pogo The pogo is when you jump up and down on your board like a pogo stick. The board is stood upright and balancing on the tail with one foot placed on the back truck and the other one on the grip tape. This trick will destroy your deck, though. Gymnast Plant This is a single-arm handstand holding the board to your feet, then landing back on top of your board. Place one hand on the ground, as you rise grab the skateboard off the ground and hold it on your feet. Landing it is much more difficult. While descending from the handstand, bring your knees toward your chest, and at the same time, throw your body vertically, while still holding the board to your feet. Make sure your shoulders are square when you land with the board. No Comply A no comply is another old school trick, kind of like a cross between an ollie and a boneless. You basically plant your front foot on the ground and ollie with the other foot, and land with both feet on the board. You can also do many other tricks with a no comply, like a no comply impossible, for instance.
