How To Improve A Computer's Speed When It Exasperatingly Slow

It often seems that as time goes by a computer loses a significant amount of its original speed. Sometimes this lost speed is thought to be a normal part of computer aging but this is usually not the case. It takes a long time for a PC's parts to become old enough for their aging to affect the way the computer will perform.
There are ways to keep a computer from losing speed and get its speed back if it has become slow. This article will talk about getting and keeping your PC's speed up to its potential.
A Computer's Resources
When we talk about a computer's resources, we are talking about the types and the ratings of the parts that comprise the computer. Those things that most influence the speed of the computer would be the motherboard, the CPU and the RAM. Still, even though we may install more RAM in our computer to give it a speed boast, most times this is done to accommodate new software or hardware we installed on the computer. However, if a computer has suddenly become inordinately slow, increasing the amount of RAM will not cure the problem.
Resource Thieves
When a computer becomes slow, either over a short period of time or a long one, there are usually very familiar unauthorized villains that are stealing the computer's resources and causing its performance to suffer.
Some types of malware is what very often will steal a significant amount of our computer's resources and make it next to impossible to use. Malware means malicious software and can be anything we normally associate with viruses or spyware.
Actually, it is not really all that important to know exactly what kinds of malware, be they viruses or spyware, have infected your computer. However, using a good spyware cleaner regularly is important. There are cleaner software programs that take care of cleaning out both spyware and viruses from your computer. So, you don't need to deal with separate virus and spyware cleaners. However, you do need to clean out all parasites or you may end up having your computer shut down on you and you may have your identity stolen all at the same time!
And The Registry!
Equally as important as keeping our computers free of viruses and spyware are keeping our computers free of registry corruption. A computer doesn't need to be abused in any way to develop registry corruption. Normal use will leave false entries in our registries and these false entries will give our operating systems stumbling blocks it must find a way to work around. This, of course, will cause our computers to slow down and become unstable. These stumbling blocks are what are known as registry corruption and it has to be cleaned out periodically or our computers will not operate at a level that is anywhere close to their potential.
It is also important to take note computer programs can be running in the background without your knowledge. This can happen because when software is installed one of the default options will usually be to allow the program to start automatically when you boot up the computer. Of course, running programs you are not using is a waste of resources. You can find the icon for these types of programs in the lower right hand corner of your screen. Right click any you find and choose the option to close the program. If you ever change your mind and want to run the program, you can do so the same as you would start any other program.
Still, it is most important to make sure you are free from spyware, viruses and registry corruption. If you do, your computer will likely continue to race down the information highway like it did the first day you used it.
