How To Increase The Traffic To Your Website

I am often asked to help people who want additional visitors to read their website. These webmasters often have spent a lot of money on the design and production of their website but have then been left to their devices. There is a famous saying on the web, there is no point in having a professional looking website if nobody ever sees it!

The types of people I am talking about here range from the owners of small businesses to the directors of large multinational companies. I am often astounded to hear how much money they have spent on web design, there sure are some rip off merchants out there. One person was being charged £100 a year for just the domain!

To attract people to our website/s we need to obtain a high search engine ranking position. There are numerous ways to do this. To start with we need to ensure that the content of the site is well written, is interesting, is unique and that it is kept up to date. Regularly adding content to the site is also a must. Every couple of years it is worth giving the site a makeover just to keep it looking fresh. Think of it in the same way as your house, occasionally you will paint and decorate the house, well at least most people do.

You then need to gain backward links pointing to your website, this is where another website will have your domain appearing somewhere within their site, preferably the homepage. To obtain these links you can buy them, this however is very risky as it goes against the latest Google guidelines, you can ask your friends, family and business contacts for a link and you can also write articles (article marketing) in an attempt to obtain them.

These are just the basics but this is certainly where you should be starting from. Once you have put the foundations in place you can then really start to make some real progress and have some real fun in learning about the more technical side of website promotion.
