How To Keep Your Business Alive

Home businesses die by the hundreds daily, a lot of people start up with huge dreams of success and unlimited income only to have it end up dying. So how do you keep your business and dream alive? There is only so much that you can talk about your home business. If your home business is about selling a certain product, there's really only a limited amount of product selling and information that you can provide. The key is to find what it is that you love to do and make it your niche.

I came across this statement "Find a job that you love and you won't have to work a day in your life" which perfectly fits this scenario. If you can find something that you love, you can keep providing more and more information about it simply because it's what you love to do. Find something that you love to do which is free and then, find a way to make money from it. That's the key to keeping your business alive. We call this a niche.

Blogging is a highly suitable means to achieve this goal. What are the benefits of having a blog on your home business page?

1. You get to talk about how you feel about a certain topic in your niche
2. New and updated information is shared freely with your readers
3. People who come across your blog can be potential buyers
4. They help to build your credibility of an honest business
5. You get to interact with people as well

So for example, if you love driving and have a passion for automobiles, you might have a website that has lots of information about cars and you also include a blog that lets people comment on what you think about a certain car make and model. If you love fishing, you might have a website that has lots of tips on good fishing skills, books and videos about fishing, you can also have a blog where you post your pictures about your latest fishing escapades where your readers can share your joy of having caught your largest fish ever.

There are lots of other positive effects of having a blog on your home business website and one of the best things about it is - it's FREE! You can easily sign up an account with Blogger, with Wordpress.com

For my recommendations, I recommend Blogger if you want your blog to be picked up fast because it's owned by Google. The blog will be quickly read by the Google search engine and you can find your blog on the search pages rather quickly - provided that you search quite specifically for your blog.

If you have your own domain, host your own blog by using Joomla or Wordpress.org.

I recommend Wordpress.org as it is one of the most popular blogging platforms that is available. It is updated on a regular basis, highly customizable and also, it has lots of useful plugins which can make your blogging efforts easier and more enjoyable.

It's up to you to choose which blog platform that you want to use. Now, having stated that it's beneficial to have your blog, there's also a downside to it. What's the downside then you ask? The downside to having a blog is that it might get a little too personal. It is imperative that you remember your blog is a place where readers come to gather information and learn from you - not to hear your rants and raves about something totally not related. Like if your site is about fishing and you have an entry that's about how upset you were when you went to a particular restaurant and had bad service. The people who come to your site to read about fishing don't really want to read that.

The only exception is when you are already an established authority in the eyes/mind of your readers. Having a "break from the top" post like that will actually bring you closer to the readers. Your readers will feel that you're "human" as well. Take note though, this only works when you've got readers who see you as an authority. For example, if Microsoft's Bill Gates revealed that he had a bit of discussion with his wife about oranges and Apple - it could possible garner tons of readers and fans. It doesn't work if you're just starting out though.
