After getting your account approved by Google ( It takes 1 to 4 weeks of time depending) you can put google ads on your blog and when someone clicks on your ad you are going to make money. And after there is 100$ in your account Google will send you a cheque. And you have started to make money from your site.

Then you have to get traffic for your blog that is how to promote your blog and get sufficient traffic( means getting visitors for your blog). And when people visit your blog they are going to give you money from the Google AdSense ads.
