The beginning of a New Year is that once a year Blue Moon opportunity to make a real change in your life. A time when so many people, make New Year resolutions, but completely forget them by January 15th.
Here are 9 ways that may help you ensure your success this year and make 2009 your personal year of success, in spite of all the doom and gloom around you.
1.First take a long hard, brutally honest assessment of the things you would like to see changed in you. Keep it simple and only try to achieve one goal at a time.
2.Take another long critical look at yourself and see if the benefit of what you would like to change is really worth the effort.
3.Make sure you have a really strong motivating reason to want to make the change. Without that you will never have any hope of succeeding.
4.Take time to write down some major and minor goals. Just ensure your goals are achievable and realistic.
5.Create a large sign for yourself, of what you would like to achieve. Place it where only you can see it, e.g. "I need to learn to be more of a negotiator rather than a confrontationist. (This means I need to show more patience with those around me, every single day.) We influence those we are in close contact with, unconsciously. I need to consciously choose to influence them with my patience, instead of confrontation. This will make an impact on my life in a major way and lead to my success in 2009".
6.Tuck your sign where only you will see it, e.g. the place where you keep your underwear. You will be the only one to keep a check on your progress.
7.Make the sign special, so you will remind yourself how important this is to you. Write it on a distinctive piece of paper. Make sure it stands out in its hidey hole.
8.Understand that it takes three weeks to make or break a habit, so don't forget to put a date on your sign. Make yourself a graph or chart for 21 days. At a set time each day stop and write down your progress, negative or positive. You may need to slightly adjust your goals to as you go along.
9.The reward will be in the end results. However, remember, there is No Gain Without Pain, that is why it is important to make sure you choose a really worthwhile goal.
2009 is not going to be an easy year for anyone. Only those who have learned to bend with the winds of change will succeed in the coming year. Everyone needs space to adapt, be it in business or personal relationships. My personal goal is that I need to give others more time to adjust to my ideas, or vice versa. You can gain the whole world, but end up the loneliest person in it.
All the very best in your New Year. Make this year, 2009, work for you. No matter what the future holds, someone will succeed in it. They always have in spite of what happens around them. Make sure that someone is you this time.
