How To Obtain Freelance Writing Jobs

There are many ways to obtain freelance writing jobs. If you include the internet, there are probably as many ways as there are jobs. Below are a few ideas on how to get started doing freelance writing, and where to get these freelance writing jobs.

The first thing to do is to decide what type of writing you want to do or what you are good at. My personal choice was writing for the web, as I tend to write a lot like I talk, and this is a bonus for web content writing. Some people prefer to work on projects that are in their backyard. This is fine as well, but you should know it will entail some cold calling and meeting with people. For some this is no problem, and for others, they may already have a list of people that they know they can call on.

So once you decide what type of writing you want to do, (and you don’t have to limit yourself to just one type of writing), you need to find the freelance markets where you can advertise your magnificent writing talent. So where do you go to find these markets?

Like I stated earlier, if you want to work with clients in your backyard, then your local area is going to be the best place to start. Try talking to people you already know in the community and get involved with the local chamber of commerce. Quite often, they will have a need for a freelance writer.

The other avenue is looking online. There are a massive amount of places to start, but I have two here that are free to log on to and bid on projects. The first is www.getafreelancer.com. This is a great site for those who are breaking into the business. There are quite a few jobs that don’t pay a lot, but when getting started as a freelance writer it’s all about building up your portfolio.

The second site to visit for freelance writing jobs is www.scriptlance.com. This site is a little more techie oriented but still a great site for writers.

Remember, if you are looking for a great place to obtain freelance writing jobs these two places are a great start, but there are a lot more out there.
