How To Overcome The Trauma When You Find Out Your Spouse’s Affair?
Instead of expecting help from outside sources to sort out your problems, have a thorough introspection and try to find out where things started going wrong. This is the first and most important step towards surviving the precarious situation which you are presently in. First, accept the facts as they are. Search your inner soul to find out how you feel about the whole situation. Try to find ways which will engage you in activities so that you can forget what has just happened at least for the time being. Take time to sort out things. Do some exercises which are specifically designed to help someone to bear the brunt of emotional trauma. To overcome your emotional shock, you have to first discover what your feelings are at present. It is quite natural for you to feel let down when you find out that your partner has cheated on you because you trusted him, you lived together for such a long time and you put in so much time and effort to build a happy married life. All your dreams are shattered within a matter of minutes. Now this is the time to look back into your life as a married couple. Think of those happy moments you had together. Analyze your feelings and find out whether you really feel disappointed. Almost everybody becomes furious when he or she finds out that the other partner has cheated on him or her. Feeling angry is natural and justified as long as you don't commit anything out of your anger. Remember that getting angry will not solve anything; rather it will create more problems only. If you want to save your marriage, you should learn how to control your anger and act sensibly. If you need help in this matter, you can go through the book titled “How to Survive an Affair” by Dr. Frank Gunzburg. This book explains how one can express one’s anger without damaging the already fragile relationship. Along with frustration and anger, a desire to retaliate your partner may also crop up. The victim of the affair wants to teach a lesson to the other partner who committed the mistake and he/she engages in similar mistakes hoping that it would inflict the same kind of shock and pain on the other partner. Such an act aimed at retaliating your partner will only worsen the situation and you are actually adding gas to fire. Feeling revengeful is justified but any action with this motive is unjustified. It is never heard that taking revenge is a solution to any problem. Acting out of retaliatory feeling shows that you are not a person of principle because committing such a mistake is not something which you would like to do under normal circumstances. You will regret such an action later in your life. Additionally, taking revenge will aggravate the problem that you already have. Vengeance will not repair the damage to your relationship caused by your partner’s infidelity. So stay away from taking revenge on your partner if you want to save your marriage.
