How To Prepare Your Document For Booklet Printing

A booklet is a complex document indeed when you create it or type it up. There are plenty of things that you need to set so that the booklet printing comes off correctly with no errors mass produced. Well, in this article, we shall teach you how to prepare your document for booklet printing. There are seven simple steps which you need to so, and you should be able to print booklets without trouble.

1. Make sure your dimensions are set – The first step is to make sure that you have set your booklet document to the right dimension. Do not of course print booklets with random dimensions unless you really need to. There are plenty of standard booklet sizes out there from the large 12 inch by 12 inch booklets to the standard letter sizes 8.5 inch by 11 inch booklets. Just ask your booklet printing company for the standard sizes or download a booklet template to be sure that your dimensions are correct.

2. Make sure that all the parts are present – The next step is to make sure that all the parts of the booklet are present. Do you have several important parts present like the cover, table of contents, relevant chapters, indexes, glossaries, page numbers and the author/publisher page? Make sure that everything you need is there so that you won’t go wrong with booklet printing.

3. Make sure some booklet details are added – Also, check if other booklet details have been added correctly. The page numbers must be printed in good order. Small chapter indicators on the header or footer are also sometimes needed. Finally, you might want to check if the appropriate footnotes or endnotes are present.

4. Check your margins – The next thing to check are the margins. The margins of a color booklet are different from other prints. Booklet margins are determined if a page is a “left” side page and a “right” side page. This is because some spacing is usually provided for the area of the page that is nearest to the binding point of the booklet. So check if this has been taken into account in your booklet draft.

5. Check your content spacing and layout – Afterward, check the spacing of your content as well as the overall layout. Do all chapters start precisely at the start of the page, or are some chapter headers beneath the end of previous chapters. Do you provide space enough for images, text boxes and other design elements? Check all of these alignments so nothing looks messy in your booklet printing.

6. Check your text and image content – Of course, you should also go for a session of proofreading before printing booklets. Try to stop the grammar and spelling errors before they get mass produced. Have two or three people check your draft two to three times so that you are sure you do not miss anything.

7. Decide on your printing options – Finally before going for booklet printing, you should have already decided on your printing options. Know what paper materials you want, the ink you want to use, the binding technique and any other special printing request. In this way, once the printing starts you already know what to tell your printer when you send in your designs.

Now you know how to prepare your document for printing booklets. Congratulations!
