How To Remove Urine From A Mattress
The first step is to remove bedding and covers from the bed. They should be washed in hot water with a generous amount of laundry soap. Because, they have soaked up the most urine, removing them quickly will minimize the damage to the mattress. The next step is to use a carpet cleaner on the affected area. Follow the cleaner's directions carefully in order to remove any unsightly yellow blotches that may be left behind. After using a carpet cleaner, 1/2 cup of fresh baking soda should be applied to the damp area. Then, they area should be sealed off using plastic sheeting and twine. Leave it wrapped for approximately six hours, which will allow the baking soda to absorb the odors. After the six hours have passed, remove the plastic and use a vacuum cleaner to sweep up the baking soda. There should be no trace of urine, or smell remaining. However, germs can still be present, so it is a good idea to generously spray the mattress with a disinfectant spray such as Lysol. Doing so will kill any bacteria, and leave the mattress a bit fresher and cleaner than it was prior to the accident.
