How To Stop Sweating Excessively
Everyone can deal with normal perspiration, but it can become a much bigger issue if a person suffers from hyperhidrosis or excessive sweating. So many people have a problem with this and that is why there are effective medical methods and treatments available to control it. In many cases the cause of it is a dominant hereditary gene which individuals have in their DNA. Part of the brain is in charge of the nervous system which is responsible for perspiration when the body gets too hot, and it brings the temperature down not just by the cooling effect of the moisture on the skin, but also on the inside of the body. If the condition is very severe, there are medical treatments and procedures which doctors can perform to get it under control. Normal antiperspirants contain aluminum chloride and can be helpful in keeping a person drier and prevent body odor, but in excessive cases the individuals need much higher concentrations of the ingredient to be effective. Botox has been proven to be effective in clearing up the condition for periods of 4-9 months depending on the location of the injections and it is mainly used for under arm sweating. A procedure was developed where a person is exposed to a low electric current by putting their hands in water and in severe cases, medicines are added too. The minerals in the water then clog up the pores where sweat is produced and in this way inhibits sweating. This treatment is known as iontophoresis and initial sessions last for 20 minutes and are done many times in the first week and then once every three weeks for maintenance. Anti-cholinergic oral drugs have been used successfully to control hyperhidrosis but they should only be taken under a doctor's supervision. This drug works by affecting the neurotransmitters in the nervous system which control perspiration. The main problem with these drugs is that they have unpleasant side effects such as dry mouth, blurry vision, constipation and drowsiness. If all other treatments do not sufficiently control the problem, there is a more invasive way to deal with it. Individuals can have surgical procedures performed such as ETS (endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy) and sweat gland removal or destruction. The removal of the glands is usually the last resort to solving this problem. Excessive perspiration can have a major influence on a person's self-confidence and well being. People get nervous which makes them sweat even more and once this happens they get even more nervous, not a very good cycle. It is an uncomfortable and distressing problem so much so that if the people affected find their lives disrupted by it, they should approach their medical doctor to find out how to stop sweating.
