How To Utilize A Closet Organizer In Your Kid's Closet

Closet organizers are the best. What's better than opening your closet up in the morning and seeing your clothes all neat and organized? Well, for starters, your kid's closet all neat, tidy and organized. After all, they probably need it more than you do. A closet organizer kit can be just the foundation that your child needs to be organized.

I did plenty of online research to find just the right organizer kit for his closet. I took everything out to begin with. This is actually a great time to sort through a lot of clothes that he just doesn't wear anymore. And, of course, these clothes can be handed down to younger siblings or relatives. Personally, I used this opportunity as a teaching moment. I let him pick through the clothes he didn't want anymore and we both went down to the nearby donation center. Its always a good idea to teach kids to be charitable as early as possible.

Although this isn't the funnest part, you should begin by clearing everything out of the closet and sorting through it. Now step back and you get a great idea of the space you have to work with. Take accurate measurements and make sure you consider your child's height when installing any closet organizer. You should try to put yourself in their shoes. I dropped the height of my son's organizer about fifteen inches to make it right for him.

By installing an additional rod down low at a comfortable height for your child will allow them to grab their own clothes. The upper rod will be reached soon enough as your child grows.

Don't worry if the shelves are too high for them to reach. You can put clothes that are out of season on them in plastic containers. For safety reasons, don't put anything too heavy up high as this could fall down on top of them if they do try and get something down by themselves. I place most items on the shelf in plastic containers that are labeled.

Don't be afraid to add a couple more shelves up top since you will probably have the extra room now. I really think that you can't overdo a closet with too many shelves.

Now, all you have left to do is to teach your child how to keep the closet neat, clean and organized. Show them the proper way to fold and hang their own clothes. They need to know how to utilize their new closet organizer so its best to teach them sooner than later.
