How You Can Begin To Attract Birds To Your Garden Easily

Many individuals have garden areas, flowers and trees on their property. There are many for planting a yard. Besides the potential for growing food and ornamental plants, quite often, people are wanting to draw birds to their garden. Seeing thesefeathered creatures flutter around the property is a real treat, almost as satisfying as helping the garden mature.

Most birds are most attracted to natural areas that have a variety of plants, a garden is a perfect place for them. Tree branches offer roosts, giving the birds security from predators and a nursery to raise their babies. Even standing dead trees and logs can bring in birds, the reason is because bugs use them as homes and the birds consume the insects.

Birds, just like any other critter have to have fresh water. They will for their own sake live in places that offer them an adequate amount of water. Therefore, it's important that you provide the birds you attract with a water source. Your water source can be either a hand dug or wild body of water, stream, river or it could be a bird bath. Large rocks with depressions on their surface also make grand bowls for water.

Standing water in your yard or garden will also invite bugs that the birds will dine on. Insects are the top energy source of most bird species and this should not be looked past. As most of us know all to well, insects are attracted to the things growing in your yard. They can cause insurmountable damage to your plants and have to be controlled. Birds are the most natural way to do this. They're organic, cause no pollution and their songs fill the air with wonderful music.

Vegetarian birds are often fed from specially crafted feeders. Most come with squirrel proofing, although those determined critters still find how to get in. Birds come in different shapes and sizes and eat different types of seeds. Feeders for birds also are available in a selection of sizes and shapes from hanging liquid Hummingbird feeders to bigger seed feeders for Blue Jays and other species. In order to invite a selection of birds, different types of feeders can be put around the yard for each species.

With all the foliage planted, feeders installed and a water source developed, birds will be attracted to your yard. When they get there, the birds will be willing to feed, drink and be happy for a long time. Some of your birds will create their home in trees close by. But most of them will nest elsewhere if there are no homes available.

Each bird, like us, have their own ideas as to the style of home they live in. Most commonly, human constructed bird houses are preferred by Bluebirds, Robins, Chickadees, Wrens, House Finches, Flickers and Martins. By making available houses of the right size and shape for each bird species, the homeowner provides the birds a safe haven for their young. While the chicks are maturing, its parents can easily find food near by the nest, thus keeping the baby within sight and well fed.

At most yard and garden stores, birdhouses can be bought in a wide variety of sizes, shapes and styles. Since birdhouses are usually quite simple, they can be readily made by the average person. It's even an activity that a group of kids, such as a scouting troop, can engage in. Having created and installed their unique birdhouse, kids and grown-ups alike will be excited about seeing new birds move in.

To get the maximum benefit out of your garden, birds are really one of the best additions. They'll come to you if they can find the things they need. Year after year, the birds will come back to lay their eggs, raise their brood and act as your own personal bug eliminators.
