How You Can Stop Foreclosure On Your Home Now

The foreclosure scene is becoming all too common these days and only seems to be getting worse with no end in sight at the present time. Foreclosures are happening in record numbers across the country as the economy seems to get worse, and as job layoffs start to become something to almost be expected in many households.

Home owners are not defaulting on their mortgages out of choice but rather out of necessity. Mortgage companies are trying to be understanding but at the end of the month, after several months of no payments, there is only so much understanding that goes around. It is not a job they relish, but banks and courts are starting to find the need to pursue legal action of foreclosure against the defaulting homeowners.

The aspect of the growth and health of the mortgage and lending market in general do not seem to coincide with the numbers of foreclosures being seen in today's market. We all keep hoping that maybe the current economic downturn is just a speed bump instead of a major long term economic slump, but we need to face the facts. What about the growth shown in the mortgage and lending industries? As has been reported in newspapers in recent weeks, you should not believe everything you read about the financial health of a market or any particular companies, since accounting numbers are far too easy to juggle to make them read how one wants them to look to the investors.

Another problem that increases the foreclosure numbers is the older generation who are living on a fixed Social Security income. Inflation continues to happen year after year so the cost of virtually everything, including medical care and prescription drugs continues to climb, but the level of income remains constant. It does not take a rocket scientist to predict that at some point, the expenses are going to grow to be larger than the income, and the prospect of finding your home in foreclosure is not all that far away.

But instead of worrying about how to increase one's income to keep up with inflation, rising costs, and to stop foreclosure, many smart consumers are starting to look to the legal system and employ laws that were put on the books many years ago. Many of these laws are designed to allow the consumer to keep his home and stop foreclosure without undue financial penalties or having one's credit report trashed for years to come.

After all, it is argued, one's home is his or her castle. It is something that constant work is put into so that it continues to look nice, be functional, and be a refuge when one has had a very bad day. Many people work all of their lives for the purpose of owning a home, and it is one of the single most valuable possessions they have, one that many even take for granted. The prospect of having one's home go up on the auction blocks due to foreclosure proceedings is almost unthinkable, but it is happening every day, much to the chagrin of the homeowner who worked so hard for that home for so long.

Take time to understand the law and understand what options you have. You have more options than you probably realize, and many options can be put to use starting today to stop foreclosure on your home. You owe it to yourself to put forth the time and effort to save your home, your castle.
