How Can You Use New Tools Like “twitter” To Share Valuable Content?

There’s no doubt: Content is king. As a business owner, you may publish articles, blog postings, and ezines to market your services, enhance your credibility, and attract visitors to your website.

But while writing content gives your ideas wings, it requires a key investment: your precious time.

A new content-creation tool called Twitter (www.Twitter.com) lets you submit tiny postings by email or text messaging. Actual postings I’ve read include:
“Heading to a fundraiser.”
“Looking at office space.”
“Shopping with my daughter.”

Do these mini-messages have value for your readers? Not likely. Plus, it seems like Twitter could be called Fritter, as in another opportunity to fritter away our precious time!

Later, while filling my birdfeeders, I pondered this question: How can you use Twitter to share content that offers real value? These ideas flew into my brain:

1. You advise corporations on how to give red-carpet service to customers. You can post innovative ideas on Twitter as they spring up. Over time, your list of tips becomes a valuable resource for prospects and clients and, as a bonus, is attractive to search engines and drives traffic to your website.

2. You’re a business coach specializing in creative, attention-getting ideas to help your clients get noticed by the media. Any time an idea flits into your mind, you post it on Twitter. Your creative list becomes a valuable brainstorming tool for your prospects and clients.

3. You own a bed-and-breakfast inn. Your backyard flutters with rare birds, so you market to avid birdwatchers. Every day, you post sightings so birdwatchers can learn which species visit your B&B each month and schedule their visits accordingly.

Whenever a new content-creation tool comes along, get crystal clear about the results you want from the time you invest. Consider how you can use Twitter (or other tools) to deliver valuable content to your readers—without frittering away your time. And as you brainstorm, take a moment to hang out with the real twittering experts, the birds.
