Keyword research is the first and most critical phase of any search engine marketing project. Keyword research is one of the most important, valuable and high return activities in the search marketing field and is extremely critical to the process of SEO. I think we need to take a few minutes to remind ourselves of some important concepts that relate to Keyword Research. Keyword research begins with brainstorming, with the idea of casting a net widely and generating a broad list. The research process includes searches, costs, age and gender info and searches intent. Researching for the right keyword is very important factor when you rely on organic traffic. Keyword research and analysis aren't as simple as using the tools available at Overture and Google. The goal of keyword research is to:Discover new keyword opportunities. Keywords are a key element in every website and keyword research is at the foundation of SEO. It's more work but, combined with best practice SEO, it gives each site page a chance for higher ranking on their own. Maintaining ongoing keyword research is essential for best practice SEO. Effective keyword research lays the ground work for effective SEO results and can help you kick-start the ranking process—perhaps even giving you a step up on your competitors. Keyword research is the single most important task as you begin any or all of the following: a new web project with SEO in mind; organic search engine optimization for existing pages; or paid search/pay-per-click marketing campaigns. The next step is lengthening that list using your favorite Keyword tool. The keyword tool will spit out a bunch of keywords. The basic idea now is to go through the list returned by the keyword tool and copy any and all similar terms as well as their corresponding search values, which relate directly to the site you’re optimizing. I use a free keyword tool called Keyword Analyst for most of my keyword research. Keyword Analyst will generate a list of the most popular keywords from a keyword or keyword phrase you enter. The list will also tell you the number of scans that particular keyword or phrase produced in a day (popularity). Individual keywords can be added to the list as well. You can also find out the (competition) of each keyword produced from the 3 major search engines (Google, Yahoo and MSN). Keyword Analyst also allows you to save your results that can be imported to a spreadsheet. Check the Resource Box for additional information. Keyword research is an excellent tool for understanding customer behavior, writing marketing copy, conducting market research, planning promotional campaigns or generating new business ideas. But, when done correctly, expert internet keywords research is the foundation to a successful SEO campaign and is the building block for search engine optimization.
