How The Recession Has Affected The Plumbing Trade In Liverpool
A few years ago I had so much work and that many enquiries that I couldn't book any more work in, at one point I was actually refusing work. Now things are very different and we are lucky if we get a couple of calls a week. A lot of people ask me would it be worth going on a plumbing course, will it help me to get a job? And my reply, not really, is it really worth spending the time retraining as a plumber when there are very few plumbers jobs in Liverpool at the moment. One of the other hiccups the economic slump has caused for tradesmen in general is a big increase in competing companies, with increased completion comes lower prices as everyone is competing for the little work there is out there. The general public know this and use it for there own benefits and call every tradesman and company in the local classifieds for the lowest quote it really is a buyer’s market at the moment. At the moment there is not a lot that the self employed tradesman can do with regards to work and my advice for anyone who is in the same position is just to ride out the economic storm by whatever means that you can and wait for more jobs in Liverpool to be created. Take every opportunity that arises it may not be your dream job but it will see you over the economic crisis that the country is in at the moment. Our government claims that thing are getting better, but from whose outlook the top directors of the banks? The politicians?
