How To Beat The Winter Blues By Breeding Mice
First of all, a person with nothing to do, is what I would consider a very lucky person, but that's just me thinking that way. I often wish there was a lot more hours in the day, to get things done, and so don't most other people, in fact a lot of us don't have time to get the winter blues. If you do find the winter blues creeping in your life this season, why not take up an activity to help beat it, like breeding mice for fun and profit. The great thing about breeding mice is you don't need to spend a lot of money like you do for breeding some other creatures. Mice do not need a big home to live comfortably or to breed, in fact one of them little plastic portable carriers that are available at most pest shops are just fine for starting out mice breeding, but if you have an old fish aquarium that's not being used, with a lid, that works even better. You will need an adult male and female mouse to start your breeding with, ask the pet shop owner to select them for you, unless you want to pick them out yourself, an adult male mouse can be easily identified by it's testicles, also the nipples on an adult female mouse are more prominent then those of a male. Once you have selected your pair of mice for breeding, and have them living in their home, the breeding activity will start by letting natures law run it's course. If you want to rush the breeding activity a little faster, you can purchase two males, for the one female or even get another female, but you definitely need a larger container to house that many mice comfortably. Your mice will start breeding pretty quickly, and the gestation will vary slightly depending on the type of mice, but it generally averages around 2 1/2 - 3 weeks, and they can have anywhere from 1 to 10 or sometimes even more babies. The mice can be left together unlike some other animals, that must be removed from their parents. If you have ever visited a pet store, you have probably seen a container full of adult mice, and a nursing mother in the same container. Mice are usually weaned around 4 weeks or slightly less after birth, and they will actually become sexually active in 7 weeks or slightly less, so it does not take long to breed a large population of mice. If you have a pet snake, you know that a favorite food of many of them is a live mouse. You can breed and raise the mice to feed your own snakes or other critters that eat them, or you can sell them to local pet stores in your area for some extra money. Raising and breeding mice is quite easy and fun to do, it's also a great activity to help beat the winter blues.
