How To Choose A Meaningful Father’s Day Gift

It can be quite challenging to choose a gift for those who apparently have everything. Giving a new tie might seem like nothing to someone who has hundreds of them like my dad. I have always found it difficult to choose the right gift during special occasions. Oftentimes, he ended up with an ugly Christmas sweater and a few times with a pack of socks. Though it’s the thought that counts, it would’ve been better if I was able to give meaningful presents. Father’s Day has always been one of those special occasions wherein I had to exert a lot of effort in thinking of gift ideas. It is a special occasion for people to celebrate their appreciation for their dads. For me, it is a day for remembering everything my dad did for me and my siblings. All I wanted was to see a smile on his face or see him laughing. Since the conventional gifts did not manage to do that, it is time to get creative and here are a few ideas.

Try returning the favor with laughter. All those selfless favors your dad did should be repaid. Those times he fixed items you broke, drove you somewhere and fetched you afterwards. The driving and fetching probably went on for a long time or until you could drive yourself. He has been a glorified taxi driver for at least 16 years! This Father’s Day, a meaningful gift can be something like “Dad’s taxi cab meter” device. With this gift, every trip can be equivalent to a household chore or favors like weeding or simply make and serve tea.

Consider what he likes. Gifts for men can also be items that he can relate to in his past. If he’s one of those people who grew up during the Thatcher age, he might have enjoyed cracking nuts using the “Iron Lady’s” thighs! A gift such as a Maggie Thatcher Nutcracker can be placed at the back of the door of 10 Downing and that can make him laugh! If your dad likes golf like mine does, wacky gifts like toilet golf might be funny too. He can play golf while sitting on the “throne!” If he loves relaxing in the bathtub, gifts like Bill Kills or a Ducktor Who might be amusing for him. It is a lot easier to think of creative gift ideas if you consider what your dad likes. For me, the toilet golf was a great gift last Father’s day. I can’t wait to get him another creative gift next year.
