How To Choose The Perfect Pair Of Dress Shoes

When you think of buying dress shoes, what comes to mind? If you're like most people, you probably think of having trouble matching a specific color, having to settle for something that won't be comfortable, and basically having to deal with an overall nightmare of a shopping experience. Well, it doesn't have to be that way. There are ways of making sure that the pair of dress shoes you choose not only has the perfect look, but is comfortable as well. Trust us. It's easier than you think.

Scared of heels? Don't be.

The idea of a dress shoe is pretty much synonymous with the idea of a heel for a good reason. Heels add a feminine, graceful air to your overall look and accentuate your legs and feet to their best advantage. However, it's unnecessary to totter around on 3 or 4 inch heels unless you're actually comfortable going that high. You can achieve the same effect with low kitten heels or heels no more than a couple of inches high. Wedge heels also offer a bit more support than their more precarious cousins, so you may consider those as an alternative as well.

Consider leather instead of fabric.

It's a common myth that dress shoes always have to be made of silk or satin. So not true! Try opting for genuine leather instead. Leather is far more comfortable than fabric and even adjusts to comfortably fit your foot. You might be especially grateful for making the switch if you'll be spending time dancing or if you're going to be on your feet for any length of time. Leather is more versatile as well, so you'll get more use out of your new shoes.

Don't overlook the lining.

A cushioned lining can make all the difference in the world when it comes to the actual comfort of your dress shoes. In fact, the right cushioning is essential if you're attending an event that will require you to be on your feet for extended period. You may also want to consider investing in cushioned inserts if the style of your shoe will allow for it... especially if the soles of your shoes are hard and offer very little shock protection.

Buy your dress first and your shoes second.

It's much more difficult to find the right dress to match your shoes than it is to operate the other way around. If you have trouble finding the right style in the right color, remember that you can always opt for white fabric shoes that can be dyed to match the exact shade of your outfit or choose a simple neutral shade that goes well with everything.

Don't forget to check out online vendors, too.

Online shoe stores typically offer a much greater variety of choices than brick and mortar stores do, so don't decide your search for the perfect shoe is finished before you check them out! You typically can save a fortune when you order the shoes you want online as well, so you owe it to yourself to see what's out there. Just make sure you allow plenty of time before your event for your shoes to be delivered to your doorstep.

When it comes to taking the guesswork out of getting your hands on the perfect pair of dress shoes, it's easier than you think. All it takes is a little planning, attention to detail, and observation.
