How To Create Happiness On Demand

Happiness is one of the most common pursuits in life. We enter relationships, acquire material things, climb the corporate ladder...all in the search for for that elusive goal. What if we are going about it the wrong way?

A lot of people hold the belief that they will be happy when they achieve their goals. When they finally arrive at their destinations, they feel great for awhile. However, soon thereafter, they start taking what they have attained for granted and start searching for the next happiness fix.

Short-term happiness can be had from receiving, but in order to experience long-term, enduring happiness, you have to learn the art of appreciation. It has been said that, "Happiness depends not so much on how much you have, but rather on how much you appreciate what you have". This can explain why some rich people are unhappy...they constantly strive for more, never taking the time to stop and smell the roses along the way.

How would you like to experience happiness whenever you choose to?

Start by making a list of what you currently have in your life...health, job, money, spouse, friends, children, etc.

Whenever you want to experience happiness, take one or more of the following ten steps:

1. Communicate with what you have
2. Enjoy what you have
3. Use what you have
4. Take care of what you have
5. Admire what you have
6. Judge with understanding what you have
7. Share what you have
8. Give thanks for what you have
9. Love what you have
10. Increase the value (grow) what you have

Feeling down?...pick up the phone and communicate with a friend. Feeling envious of your neighbor's new BMW in their garage?...get on your knees and give thanks for the roof you have over your head.

Appreciation is a skill that will greatly contribute to your lifelong happiness. Like all other skills, it takes practice to really benefit from it. Start generating happiness on demand by taking the ten steps.
