How To Curl With A Curling Iron

So you have a curling iron but you’re not an expert using it just yet. No problem, after reading these simple steps you’ll get the hang of it in no time and you’ll be creating all kinds of curls and waves to give your hair a new, bouncy look.

But first, let’s take a look at what kind of curling iron you would need for the best results. The size of the barrel is what defines the type of curl you’ll get, so before starting you should pick the size you need. If you want small, springy curls then use the smallest barrel size (0.75 inches) which is best for girls with short or fine hair to give them a bit more volume. For regular curls use the standard 1 inch curling iron which is easy to find, and for large, flowing waves choose a bigger barrel (1.5 – 2 inches).

Now for the actual curling, here’s what you have to do:

1. Starting with clean and dry hair, apply some heat protectant to give your hair some extra protection against high temperatures.

2. Plug in your curling iron to give it time to heat up while you gently comb through your hair so you won’t end up with tangled curls.

3. Clip your hair back in multiple sections to make it easier. Begin with the undersection of your hair and use small sections if you want tighter curls or large sections for looser curls.

4. If you have a spring curling iron, push down on the clip to open it and clamp down onto the ends of the section, then roll the iron upwards and hold it there for about 10 seconds. Release the clamp and gently slide out. If you have a clipless curling iron then simply take the section of hair with your free hand and wrap it around the barrel, hold and then release.

5. Continue until you’ve curled every section. Use your fingers to shake the curls out a bit and create a much more natural look, you might even want to flip your head and then style with your fingers. Lightly apply some holding spray to keep them in style for longer.

And voilà! Beautiful, bouncy curls in five simple steps. For even better results, use a good quality curling iron that uses moisturizing ceramic heat and anti-frizz technology so you can enjoy perfect curls all day long.
