How To Dress For The Seasons

If you feel that the heat is getting you down and making you perspire dreadfully, look at your clothing. If you are wearing polyester clothing that could be making you feel worse than you need to. Cotton clothing is the best for hot weather as it breathes and absorbs moisture. The moisture content of cotton clothes actually acts as a cooler. Sheets and pillowcases made of pure cotton will keep you feeling much cooler on those hot nights.

But if we were to wear cotton clothing in extremely cold conditions we would get chilled quickly. Cotton does not have wicking properties, so the moisture from our bodies is trapped and kept against our skin, making us feel cold. Polyester clothing is better for very cold weather, as it directs moisture away from the skin and helps it to evaporate. A mixture of polyester and wool is actually very warm to wear in cold conditions as both wool and polyester have wicking properties, but wool in the better insulator.

So the next time you feel attracted by that gorgeous outfit in the summer, look first to see what it is made of. Polyester might be easy-care and non-iron. You can usually throw it in the washing machine and it comes out looking fine. It dries quickly too. But if it does not feel good in hot weather you won't enjoy wearing it.
