There has never been a better time to start your own home-based business as an online writer.
And it's so easy to get started. You just set up your own web site, write articles, upload them to your web site and start earning money.
And it really is as effortless, uncomplicated and straightforward as that.
It used to be that to make money as a writer you had to send out hundreds of proposals every month to magazines, newspapers and other publications.
This took a lot of time (in writing and running to the post office) and money (for paper, stamps and envelopes).
And then you had to wait and wait to see if you'd get a favourable response or not. And most times it was not.
Once you received a favourable response you then had the task of producing the article or story which usually involved quite a bit of research and interviewing.
Then you'd send it to the publisher and wait to see if they would or wouldn't publish your work. And if they did, you'd have to wait several months for it to be published and then you'd finally get paid.
It wasn't a great life back then, but it was a living.
But now everything has changed.
The internet has made it possible for you to write, publish online and then earn money.
Writers earn money online from pay-per-click advertisements, affiliate marketing and selling their own e-books.
Pay-per-click ads work by you pasting the code for the ad on your web site (usually a Google AdSense ad) and if someone clicks on it you earn money.
The amount you earn per click depends on what the advertiser is willing to pay. But the earnings per click can range from only a few cents to as high as $20 to $30, depending on the topic of your web site.
You can also use your writing talent to sell other people's products as an affiliate. This means that you advertise their products on your site, and if someone clicks on your link and makes a purchase, you get paid a commission (and some of the commissions can be as high as 75%).
Of course, as a writer, you can also produce your own products to sell online such as e-books. These are instantly downloadable electronic books. And if you use a large affiliate company such as ClickBank.com to sell your e-books, you can take advantage of their huge army of over 100,000 affiliates to help sell your products.
And it's also possible to turn your e-books into print books and sell them worldwide. The internet makes it possible for you to do this from home too.
Of course there are many other ways you can make money as an online writer such as blogging, article marketing and using job sites for writers, just to mention a few.
