How To Easily Choose Color For Your Living Space

1. Once you’ve decided on a style for your living space, i.e. modern or eclectic, choose a foundation palette that has 3 or more colors. In this case, it could be your modern wall art or fabric from your couch or chair. To get ideas for color or to see what’s in style, visit home accessory stores like cb2 and Crate & Barrel. They’ve got beautiful palettes!

2. Choose a mid-toned color from the foundation palette for flooring and large furniture pieces. This can be a solid or patterned design. It’s best to keep this color neutral or something you feel you can live with for years. Accessories are the most economical to change out, so spend the most money on the large things like furniture. Simple is best!

3. Use the brightest colors from the foundation palette for accessories like pillows, throws, rugs, vases and table decorations. Also, this site ModWallArt.com has wonderful affordable options for modern art with attitude. You’ll love it! Find your perfect accents here.

4. The foundation palette colors should be present in at least three places in the space to tie everything together (i.e. woven rug, pillows, wall art).

5. To get that “put-together” look, use coordinating fabrics in different scales (a little magenta here, but a lot over there, a pillow with green and white stripes and a rug with green and white spheres).

6. The brightest colors should be used as the accent colors, and should not dominate the space, but “pop” and add interest to the room. (Tip: 60% lightest color, 30% mid-tone color, 10% accent bright color)

Custom large format wall art is becoming increasingly popular for everyone from the art lover to the corporate office. Never has it been this easy to upload your own or change the layout of one of Modern Mural’s hundreds of hip designs. There are a few basic requirements for image size and quality, a photo from an 8 megapixel camera will work great, and the least amount of alterations to the image, the better. You can purchase images from other sites that may be uploaded and used to create a modern mural. Size requirements for these images are XL, XXL, or vector. Some examples of these web sites include: stockxpert.com, istockphoto.com, and fotolia.com

Visit their oversized section for ideas if you have a large space that needs to be filled. “Having the option of custom layouts and uploads available on the site takes out the need for the middle man – and all those pesky designer’s fees. If having your own photo or artwork printed intimidates you, there’s a gallery of artwork from abstract to macro nature shots that will do nothing less than impress” says owner, Juliane Evans.

Artists from around the globe contribute to the extensive gallery thus creating a very unique fusion of styles. Martine, from France, creates artwork that’s very Zen, with rocks and botanicals as the subjects. Michael, from England, creates the boldest brightest designs that are not for the cautious. Both create artwork that embodies Modern Mural’s philosophy: “Art and technology have a symbiotic relationship. To us, not much is better than dreaming up an environment for your living space that is fresh and modern. We love design and we strive to capture a specific art culture in its advent. Refuse to be bound by convention. Decorate your space with cool photos. Create an environment that reflects you. Live to inspire. Be in charge of your art.”
