Techno as it is known emerged in the 1980s as electronic media was really coming into its own. The ability for untrained/amateur musicians to play with beats and rhythms on the computer was a huge evolution of creative expression, placing a vast amount of musical control into the hands of computer geeks. :)
Many people don't understand techno or how to appreciate it. This is a basic rundown of the mindset you should have when opening up to electronic music, house, techno, or techno remixes.
First... just because it sounds digital or electronic, doesn't mean it's cheesy. You have to imagine what it must have been like for society to suddenly embrace the piano when all they'd ever played were wind instruments, drums, and maybe a sitar. The electronic medium has a new and unique sound but it doesn't have to relate to connotate cheapened musical quality to you.
Remember that this style of music relies on ancient musical tools: beats, solid baselines, melody, harmony, dischord, etc. It's just the sound that is different. The sound of the new century... the Digital Age.
Open your mind and let the rhythms of binary speak to you. :)
