How To Maintain Your Wrought Iron Gate?

Maintaining a wrought iron gate is simple, if done in a proper and effective way. Here are a few guidelines on how to clean your wrought iron gate. You can simply do it yourself with the help of a garden hose, mild detergent, bucket, sand paper, primer, and few other common necessities for a cleaning purpose. Initially you need to take a bucket containing warm water and mild detergent. Mix with your hands until you get enough soap bubbles. Now you would have to dip a sponge into the bucket and rub it on the gates.

With the help of a brush, scrub the whole area of the gate. Rub thoroughly on the area where there are more dirt, grime and bird droppings. Once you finish scrubbing, use your garden hose to rinse both the sides of your gate thoroughly. Rinse well, thereby not leaving soap residues behind. This might lead to the discoloration of the gate. Now wipe the entire portion of the gate with a towel, and leave it to dry for several minutes.

Next comes the rust cleaning process. It is easy to remove rust from the gate at its initial stage. In case if it is left unattended, it develops more extensively and is very hard to remove. You can remove it by using a piece of sandpaper and rubbing away thoroughly on the areas which it has affected. After rubbing on both the sides of the gate, wash it again and let it dry. Wait about 30 minutes for the gates to air dry.

On applying a primer onto the gates you can find a best solution to prevent the formation of rust. Choosing a primer that has a spray mechanism would be a better option. It is best to apply 2 coats of primer for higher protection. And finally comes the most important step and that is the painting of your gate. You would have to paint your gates with paint that is suitable for wrought iron. This offers further protection of your gates.
