How To Position Yourself As The Expert
Here are 5 steps to use your knowledge to position yourself as an expert and generate tremendous profits: Define what you are an expert at and then make it more specific. If you are good at organizing then find a specific type of organization to focus on. Home organization? Business organization? Organizing busy families? Time management? See how you can narrow your topic down to a very specific niche? This is important because it will help you market your book better and it will ensure that you profit from your book. Once you define your expert topic, create a website devoted to that topic. Write a few articles, or have them written for you, on your niche topic. Publish the articles in relevant publications. Relevant publications do not have to be large mainstream publications like Time or Men’s Health. In fact, associations and organizations often have smaller scale publications that reach a highly focused market – your market. For example, if you are an expert on time management your audience might be busy corporate executives or they might be work at home moms, or both. Find publications that cater to these two groups and write an article for them offering a few time management tips. Do not forget the online market. The internet is a wealth of information, much of that information is put there by people just like you – people that are experts at something. Use the internet to establish yourself as an expert by posting articles and blogging on your own website. Also participate in forums and blogs relevant to your topic. Write articles for relevant online publications and newsletters. Each one of your articles published outside of your website must have a short biography where you can link to your website and provide contact information. Write, and publish, a book about your topic. Your book does not have to be destined for bestseller status. You can write a book simply to enhance your credibility in your business or career. A published book is a very powerful business card! You can even publish your book electronically and email your book to potential clients or print it and carry it with you to client meetings. What a great way to get your foot in the door with a tough client! Speak on your topic. Chances are that there are local groups hungry for your information. Speak for free and hand out business cards that direct people to your website. Better yet, charge a nominal fee and teach classes on your topic. Your chamber of commerce, free community university, or small business association chapter may be looking for people just like you. These public speaking endeavors can quickly turn into consulting opportunities, radio and television interviews and much more. Create a whole catalog of products from your book. If one book establishes you as the expert in your field, imagine what a catalog of products will do. The best thing is that you can use your book as the starting point for your product list. You can have your book read aloud and recorded as an audio book. You can divide your book into reports and sell them individually. You can interview experts for your book. Record them and then sell the interviews as audio products. The options are endless. You’ll not only increase your credibility and expert status, you will profit from it. What is better than that?
