How To Save Money On Appliances

When you shop for new kitchen appliances, what do you look for? Do you look for a good price, or do you look for good quality and performance? If you want to save money, you may be tempted to go for the cheapest appliances or tools, but that might not be the best choice for money saving purposes.

Let's look at buying an all clad slow cooker as an example. You have a choice between spending $200 on an all clad slow cooker or a $150 slow cooker. You're friend decides to shop for the same thing with you. You choose the $200 all clad and you friend gets the $150 one to save money. After 2 years, you're still slowly cooking delicious meals while your friend is on the market for a new cooker due to their old one dying out.

They go out and spend another $150 to, again, save money. In another 3 or 4 years, that one dies, too, while yours is still going strong. Your cooker has always produced delicious meals while even when your friend's was working, it never quite cooked the food to tender perfection.

Finally, your friend decides to buy the all clad slow cooker that you bought but 6 years later and at a higher price of $250. Now you both have slow cookers that will probably last for at least another 10 to 20 years, but you spent $200 and they spend $550. Let's assume you both used them about the same amount.

This isn't a true story, it is only an example. Your situation could mean a bigger savings or a smaller savings. The main idea is that you should not look at price alone, or quality alone for that matter. Some appliances are overpriced for not much better quality. Think before you buy if you don't want to waste money.
