When was the last time you walked into your attic or your basement? Most of us cannot remember because it is always an experience we dread. There are usually so many dusty boxes up there filled with who-knows-what that we would like to pretend they do not exist. If we just ignore all those random boxes, they will somehow just take care of themselves right? Wrong! You need to take control of all this clutter before it takes control of you! Besides, you never know what you might discover. So many memories are just waiting to be found! It is time to start an attic and basement exploration expedition! Get ready to use that kitchen hutch because you might find some beautiful family heirlooms that deserve to be on display.
First, gather your crew. In all likelihood, this group will consist of a few friends and your wonderfully eager family members. I am sure your teenage daughter would love to dedicate the majority of her weekend to opening up dusty and dirty cardboard boxes. Make sure everyone wears old clothing and has a few large trash bags. Let the cleaning begin!
Assign everyone a section of the room. Most the boxes will not be labeled, so everything will need to be opened so that you know what you have. For items such as Christmas decorations, Halloween costumes, and children's school projects, pull out a black marker and label them so that they are easy to find in the future. If someone unearths a treasure like your grandmother's china, you need to take that out of the attic! It does no one any good just by sitting there. You should take everything down, clean it off, and display in in your kitchen hutch. Not only will this decorative dishware add sophistication to your kitchen and home overall, everyone will be very impressed by this piece of your family history.
Ideally, after a few hours of hard work, you will have quite a few full trash bags and another huge pile of things that you can try to sell at a yard sale. Not only will your attic and basement be much less cluttered, you might actually make some money by selling items you no longer need. Your wife will also love having decoration in that kitchen hutch. Have fun with your attic and basement exploration expedition!
