How To Use Krause World Coin Catalog To Value Your Coins

Many collectors from novice to experts often rely on price catalogs when estimating the worth of their collections and frequently many made mistakes when it is time to sell, they literally valued their coins on what the catalogs listed as the value.

Do you think the catalogs prices are accurate?

Answer: NO! Why? It is because the catalogers ONLY depend on volunteer contributors to submit pricing information and SOME contributors which are mostly dealers nudged the prices higher that the coins actual worth.

So, you should not take those prices as the Gospel truth but instead do some research.

First, check your coins info in the Krause coin catalog. For example you have a Morgan coin dated 1921, see what is the mint mark if its "D" or "S", ok you found out it's an "S" so you have Morgan 1921-S, the current catalog value range from 20$ - 31,000$ if your coin is used don't expect your coin to be worth more than 20$.

Since your coin is silver you should check the current kitco.com price for silver. Also check the ounce weight of your coin in the catalog which is 0.7734 oz.

Here is the way you should calculate it. Current silver value price X ounce weight = Your coins worth + other factors. 18.31$ X 0.7734 = 14$

14$ is the achievable price for your coin.

Whether your coin is silver, gold, copper, platinum or etc. you need to do some research, check eBay or other online auction sites how much the likes of your coins are being sold, educate yourself on how to grade which is also found in the Krause catalog then you can decide how much is the real value, but if you see in the catalog that your coin is so valuable seek experts on your area immediately!
