How To Use Social Networking To Promote Your Blog
When starting a blog and beginning the marketing process, it can often seem overwhelming. There are so many options to choose from, and when coupled with the naiveté that accompanies most first-time self-promoters, so many things can go wrong or be done incorrectly. Although there are a large variety of options to choose from, there are a few certain websites and programs that should be utilized to get the word out about your amazing and unique content. One such example is Twitter. While typically dismissed as a nonsense program used for meaningless updates about one’s life, it has evolved into a powerful marketing tool for independent bloggers and major companies alike. Aside from its obvious use to send out “tweets” concerning your new updates (some blogging platforms do this automatically for you), you can break down followers into groups and target certain individuals with your updates. In addition, you can include a Twitter button after each post, which gives readers a chance to update their own Twitter accounts with your post. This allows your work to reach a whole new audience, and with luck, might get it submitted to a popular social media site such as Reddit or Digg. Reddit and Digg are websites that allow users to submit content to be voted upon by the users. Given the sheer amount of content and the diversity of the users, there is no guarantee these sites will provide any serious benefit at first; however, once you have become established, or if you have a really good article to share, the popularity of your work can bring in a whole new host of long-term readers. Although the latter has yet to happen to me, several articles I have written for my own website have garnered an additional two to three thousand hits. Although this only lasted a day or so, the odds of it attracting new readers is much higher than if the article had never been submitted in the first place. Much like Twitter, buttons exist that can be placed within the code of the website template that allows readers to submit a story to one of these sites or, if it has already been submitted, be voted upon. Another popular method of online marketing is the frequent utilization of Stumbleupon. This website allows users to “stumble” a website they deem interesting, which in turn adds it to a database. Other people eventually come across the site, favorite it, and promote it themselves. Several weeks ago I was on Twitter and a fellow blogger of a fairly popular film site asked for advice on something. I responded, and the next day noticed he had linked to my website as a way of saying thank you. The site was hit on Stumbleupon, and now every time I make an update my site’s stats skyrocket into the thousands. This is a far cry from the 150-200 I normally receive. This one-two punch of social networking has proven to be a huge boon for my website, and an excellent example of not only how beneficial they are in the world of website promotion, but of how they can all be used together. These are just some examples of how social networking can benefit your website. As time progresses, more opportunities will open up, and you will eventually learn how to utilize all of them to their fullest potential. Article Directory: http://www.articledashboard.com |
