There are so many wonderful things about camping trips that it should come as no surprise that so many of us choose to spend our time in this way. Yet there are undoubtedly some negatives associated with them too. Many people would quickly point to campsite toilets as one such negative.

If you've never previously been on a camping holiday then you've missed out on a lot of great things. Fortunately for you, you've also missed out on using campsite bathroom facilities! To say that they are of a poor standard would be an under-statement.

With apologies to those campsite owners who do provide good, clean facilities, it should be pointed out that things frequently aren't up to scratch. So how can you go about using them, while still enjoying a camping trip?

One answer is, of course, to try and avoid sites that have the worst facilities. This can sometimes be done by reading about a campsite before setting off. You'll find that plenty of enthusiasts are happy to give details of sites and that the internet provides a great way to read numerous objective reviews.

But it's not always possible to find out about toilet conditions before arriving at a campsite. So do you have any other options? One alternative is to purchase your own portable camping toilet. This can be a a really good idea, allowing you to maintain much more control in terms of hygiene standards.

Your best option will probably be to opt for a folding toilet. These take up far less room in your car, which may well be important if you're trying to pack a lot of equipment.

There are quite a few products available in the UK, including the popular Biotoi model, which offers the additional advantage of being environmentally friendly. You may well prefer this to use alternatives that make use of chemicals.

By buying a portable camping loo you can avoid using those campsite toilets.
