How To Build Relationship With Your List

List marketing is essentially relationship building. It’s the modern day equivalent of the newspaper man or milk man coming by the house each day.

When you build a relationship with your list, they’ll look to you as a tried and true resource in the niche. They’ll purchase from you and make an effort to seek out your recommendations on products.

However, not all lists are built equally. If you don’t actively build a relationship with your list, you may have a group of people who don’t know who you are or why you keep writing to them.

They may unsubscribe or even worse, mark your messages as spam!
This can all be avoided by having your list built right from the start. Follow these steps to build a relationship with your list.

1.Have at least seven messages in place before you start collecting opt-ins.

Many marketers start list marketing with the best of intentions. They create an opt-in box and give away a bonus. They fully intend to create follow-up messages at a later date, but then they drop the ball.

They only think of their list the next time that someone is launching a product and those messages aren’t very well received. You can avoid this by having your autoresponder sequence ready to go from the start.

2.Send helpful information and not just sales messages.

Most people dread getting e-mail marketing messages because they feel like they are always getting sold to. Although your bottom line goal for your list is to make money, you can make a lot more money if you start to build a relationship first.

You need to offer them some insightful content that will be helpful to them. Send an article, relate a story, share a case study - all of these tactics will help them see you as a resource instead of a sales person.

It will prove to them that you can be trusted and that you have important information to share. They’ll remember this the next time you recommend a hand-picked product.

3.Only send affiliate offers that really matter.

There are so many product launches going on all the time that it might seem tempting to send your list an affiliate link once a week.

This is one of the fastest ways that you can kill the relationship between you and your list.

Choose your affiliate products carefully and make sure that they have actual relevance to your list. They’ll be more responsive if you sprinkle in hig-quality offers within a lot of helpful content.

4.Ask them what they want.

List marketing doesn’t have to be a one-way street. Getting feedback from your list is one of the best ways to build your relationship and help your status grow.

You can ask directly for feedback by inviting your list members to hit reply on your e-mail marketing messages and let you know what they think.

You can also do it formally through regular surveys and polls to stay on top of what your list needs. If you know exactly what they want, you can deliver it to them and increase your profits.
