How To Choose A Home Whitening Kit

When you decide to whiten your teeth at home, be willing to ask questions. Some might be excellent, while others less so. It’s important, then, to know how to choose a home whitening kit so you are sure you’re getting the right product for you.

Cost

One of your first considerations might be cost. If a tooth whitening kit’s cost is prohibitive, you might decide that kit won’t work for you, even if it features elements that are desirable to you.

When you consider your personal price point, think about how much you’ll save on any other remedies you are currently using. If you have visited the dentist for this kind of service, you might save hundreds of dollars a year by using a home kit. If you are currently using a home kit (or teeth whitening toothpaste) consider how much you’ll save by not using that product and switching instead to the kit you are considering.

Once you have factored in your savings think about how much you can afford to invest in a tooth whitening kit. The reality is the price point for this kind product is all over the board. You might decide you can pay $50 for a kit, or a few hundred dollars.

Can you recoup your investment? Think about this:
• Will whiter teeth give you more confidence?
• Do you think that having a whiter smile might help you nab that job or get the girl?

Once you think about it, you might decide that having white teeth is a good investment. Consider all these factors when you give cost a consideration.

How is it used?

Not all tooth whitening kits work the same. Some require you to brush your teeth with special toothpaste while others require you apply strips of whitening to your teeth. Others might require you to suck special mints, or chew special gum.

Think about your comfort level. Do you have sensitive gums that might react to the strips of toothpaste? Are you short on time and thinking that simply sucking a mint or chewing a gum might be best?

When you shop for your home tooth whitening product, consider all of these things. Read about how the product is used (how long do you suck the mint for? How long must you wear the strips?), and then make an educated decision about whether or not the product is good for you.

What’s in it?

It’s important that you educate yourself about what particular whitening agent a kit relies on for results because not all will produce the same results or work for you the same way.

Discovering what the main ingredient is in a whitening product isn’t hard. Simply read the package, or do some research online. If you are considering an online purchase, use the product’s sales page to help you determine the main ingredients. Once you know that, do some quick research on the ingredients so you can develop some confidence about how they will work for you.

Results

Here’s the big daddy – the product you choose must work. When you are doing your research about the home whitening kits available, be sure you consider whether or not the products work. Looking beyond the hype, you want to know if your teeth will really be whiter and brighter.

As you research the home whitening products available, as yourself these questions:
• What do other people have to say about the products? Are their reviews honest?
• What kind of side effects do people report? Do the positive results outweigh any discomfort the home whitening product might bring?
• Can you see before and after pictures? Do you see a real difference in the pictures?
• How long will the results last? Will you have to use the product regularly to attain consistent results?
• Are there any clinical studies that back up the claims made about the product?

If you ask the right questions and look for the answers, you are sure to find just the right home tooth whitening kit for your needs.
