How To Find Good Topics To Write About For Articles, Content And Blog Posts

No matter what type of business model you’re attempting online, you’re going to need content – and lots of it! Articles, blog posts and website content all revolve around good writing.

If you don’t consider yourself to be a writer or are just plain tapped out on ideas, don’t worry. There are several different sources that you can use to come up with new ideas and fresh perspectives for your content.

If you feel like you’ve reached the end of your rope with content, try these ideas on for size.

Forums – Forums in your niche can be a good nesting ground for content ideas. Generally, people share a lot of information about your niche within a forum but this information isn’t organized or coherent.

You can use these online conversations in order to spark your article topics.
Forums are a great place to source ideas because they are full of potential customers. Be sure to check out the “hot” discussions that have a lot of replies and also frequently asked questions. These are both terrific places to start coming up with ideas.

Social networking – Forums are a form of social networking but there is plenty of other areas to mine as well within other social networking sites.

Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and other sites are good sources for tapping into what is important to your niche. There are a lot of potential readers and buyers in these locations, so start participating to get those creative juices flowing (and maybe increase your sales).

Polls and surveys – If you have an active list, you can easily source article and blog post ideas from your current subscribers. Create a survey with SurveyMonkey.com or a poll with Vizu.com and send the link to your list.

For maximum effectiveness, you’ll want to give them something in exchange for their visit, like a free report or special discount. You can also post the poll on your homepage and collect data from all of your website visitors.

Look at your competition – If there’s a competitor site that is active in your niche, you may want to pay attention to what they are posting in their blogs and on their websites.

If they have done their research and appear to be authoritative, it’s a good bet that they are writing about topics that are important in your niche. Take care not to copy them directly but use their content as a springboard for your own.

If they are writing about the “Top 5 ways to Grow a Great Organic Garden” you can create an article on “Top 5 Mistakes You Can Make with an Organic Garden.”

Reread your old content – If you have popular posts or articles from the past, there’s no reason why you can’t visit those topics again and create fresh content. Take a look at your stats and figure out what is doing well as far as traffic and conversions are concerned. Then take a new angle on the same topic and create fresh new content.
