How To Set Successful Goals And New Year's Resolutions
Cori revealed her secrets to successful goals and resolutions on Breakfast Television this New Year’s Eve. Don’t worry if you weren’t able to catch her appearance—we’ve put together some information below that anyone can follow to make 2011 the most successful one yet. The biggest tip or trick for success in goal setting is to do what works for you. Don’t follow anyone’s path but your own. Much has been written about the power of putting your intentions into writing, really committing to the attainment or achievement of what it is you say you want. And, in the end do what works for you! The following are a few steps for you to consider as you plot your journey! Closing off the Year The Tibetans believe that how you end your year is an indication of how your next year will unfold. Take this opportunity to take time out for yourself and reflect on the happenings in your life in 2010 and what you would like to take with you into 2011. Ask yourself the following questions: 1. What do you need to let go of from this past year? 2. What are you most thankful for that happened this last year? 3. What do you want to take with you in to 2011 that you learned and worked well for you in 2010? 4. Based on what you have learned by answering the questions above, what is a personal commitment you would like to make to yourself for 2011? To me if you do nothing else do this, it’s a great exercise to do with your family on New Year’s Eve. Goal Setting: Future Focus Now that you have your Personal Commitment for 2011, imagine that it’s December 31st, 2011; how would you answer the following questions? Note—on January 1 of each year my husband and I do the Polar Bear swim in English Bay as a way of putting into action what it is we say we want…a fresh clean start—looking forward. I encourage you all to join us. This will be my 18th year. Here are a few questions to consider: 1. 2011 was successful for me because…. 2. In 2011 I am most thankful for…. 3. In 2011 my greatest learning came from…. 4. I honoured my personal commitment in 2011 by…. You can ask further questions that focus on other areas like: 1. Financial 2. Relational 3. Intellectual 4. Physical 5. Spiritual What matters is that you get really clear on what you say you want, really want. Not the “shoulds” in your life, but what you really want and then: 1. Visualize with feeling: imagine yourself already in the state of having achieved your goals. 2. Take action: write a letter dated December 31st, 2011 clarifying all that has happened to you, as though it had already occurred! Take it one more step and create a Vision Map/Dream Board/Collage with brilliant colours. The more senses you can include the more likely you will create what you want. State your Personal Commitment, align your goals and then take action. Mail your letter to: The Jouta Performance Group Inc. 301 – 1040 Hamilton Street Vancouver, BC V6B 2R9 Phone: 604 488 8885 We will NOT open the letter but rather put it into another envelope to be mailed back to you in December 2011.
