How To Use Boat Lifts

A hydraulic boat lift is equipment that houses or stores the boat so as to protect it from external elements such as natural calamities and other boats. However, the boat lift itself demands maintenance and it needs to be kept in working condition by giving it a regular maintenance service.

The following steps briefly explain how to use boat lifts:

1. A boat can always be kept in the boat lift and can be detached from it in order to use the boat. The boat lift is operated by a motor controlled by a switch. To use the boat, the motor is turned on which lowers the boat down into the water. Once the boat is afloat, the switch can be turned off. Sometimes, boat lifts are supported by cables, so once the cables touch the water level, it indicates that the motor needs to be switched off.

2. The boat needs to be driven off the lift once it is on the water. Once the boat driver enters the boat, the boat lift motor switch needs to be turned off manually by another person on the lift. By switching on the boat engine, the vehicle can be steered off and away from the lift.

3. Boat lifts can be protected by making sure that is just above the water level, every time a boat moves off the lift. The lift motor is used to lower and raise the lift above the water level. Raising back the lift ensures that it is protected from any corrosion or use by another boat.

4. The boat once used needs to be placed back on the lift. For this, the process is again repeated which involves lowering the lift into the water and driving the boat back onto the lift. Lift poles help in placing back the boat onto it in correct position. Boat engine can then be switched off once it is placed back on the lift. Boat lifts can be raised to a much higher level so that it is protected and kept safely from any damage caused due to water or any other boats in the vicinity.

Boat lift maintenance is yet another important task. Boat lifts need regular lubrication with grease, for its moving parts like gears, cables etc. Boat lifts can be prone to cracks in belts or usual defaults in electric cables and insulation wires, which need to be checked regularly and attended immediately. If the boat is away from the dock for a longer period, it is advisable to raise the boat lift to the upper position and shut off the power to the lift from the main power supply circuit. Also, it’s always better to ensure that the space beneath the boat lift is clear before it is lowered for mounting or dismounting the boat.
