How To Wear A Kilt Outfit
The obvious cornerstone of the whole outfit is the kilt itself – a length of fabric, usually in a tartan, worn around the waist with the pleats to the rear and fringes to the right. It is worn high up on the waist with the top around the belly button and the bottom coming to the middle of the knee. It’s important to make sure it’s not too long or too short! A formal shirt is worn underneath the waistcoat. This shirt can either have a normal collar or a wing collar depending on the neck wear you have chosen. On top of the waistcoat comes the jacket. There are several different styles to choose from here but these should always complement the colours of your kilt. If you are going for a casual look then a Jacobite style kilt jacket may be better. Something more formal would maybe require a Prince Charlie or Argyll jacket. Black leather brogues are the traditional style of shoes that should be worn with the laces crossing decoratively up the ankles. Kilt socks, or hose, are usually thick and made from cotton. You want to make sure that your feet are comfortable - you may have to take part in a few ceilidh dances! No kilt outfit would be complete without all the kilt accessories. Perhaps the best known of these is the sporran. This is a pouch, usually made of leather and covered in a fur or metal decoration, which sits around your waist on a chain strap. This is where you can keep your valuables – chiefly your hip flask containing a good single malt whisky! Your belt buckle sits atop your kilt, complementing the kilt pin which you attach to the bottom of your kilt. Flashes are worn on the calf and the garter of these sits under the top of the hose. Again these should be in the same tartan as your kilt or should complement your colours. Now all you have to do is to slide your Sgian Dubh (S-gee-an Doo) ceremonial dagger into your hose - on the right if you are right handed, left if you’re left handed. Check the mirror and give yourself a big ‘Och Aye’ - Now that is how you wear a kilt outfit! Article Directory: http://www.articledashboard.com For more information and advice visit buyakilt.com.
