Hybrid Pianos

One of the most innovative new piano models to come onto the market in recent years has been the Yamaha Avant Grand 'Hybrid Piano' which was introduced in February of 2009 to much interest by musicians and critics alike. The Avant Grand is Yamaha's contribution in allowing players to replicate the experience and sound of playing a grand concert piano. It also gives listeners the same experience from the other side of the keys.

Yamaha are one of the worlds most experienced and respected piano manufacturers fusing 21st century technology with the traditional methods and ethos of the craftsmanship of piano fabrication. One of the other main benefits of this model of hybrid piano is the size, it is perfect for limited spaces as it is less than half the size of a traditional full size grand piano.

This innovative hybrid piano is created specifically to mimic the touch of a traditional acoustic piano via the same mechanisms but with special speakers. Some have heralded it as a digital piano that sounds exactly like and acoustic grand piano. It has four speaker, four sub-woofers and amplifiers which are located alongside the microphones. The Yamaha Avant Grand also comes with integrated software giving samples and allowing users to easily upgrade.

Some of the special inbuilt features you can expect from this model are that it never needs tuning, it has a song recording playback feature, instant-scale-temperaments-change and it mutes whenever the headphones are plugged in.  In the Yamaha Avant Grand the experience is further enhanced by the keys triggering a hammer that strikes a bar which replicates the feel of slamming a chord on one of the world's most prized instruments.

The Yamaha Avant Grand comes in three models ranging generally in price from £5000 up to almost £14000. the three models are the: Yamaha Avant Grand N1, the N2 more like an acoustic upright and the most expensive in the range the N3 which looks most like a baby grand piano. The features included in the Avant Grand N1 are; it has an 88 note specialised grand piano action, soft-close fall board, Spatial Acoustic Sampling, Spatial Acoustic Speaker System, finished in polished ebony and a 265 note polyphony.

The Avant Grand seems to be the perfect solutions to those musicians looking to experience the feel and sound of playing a grand piano without the cost and needed space. This instrument is a shining example of how manufacturing, design and innovation are constantly evolving for the better.
